All employers should be alert to a dangerous Form W-2 email scam. It's a threat to both tax data and employees. The emails appear to come from someone in authority asking for a copy of last year's W-2s.
Once the W-2s are in the hands of the cybercriminals, they file fraudulent tax returns for refunds. Be sure to report any W-2 thefts to the IRS and to your state tax officials immediately.
